Prof.Dr.Anil Kumar S., (Rtd. Principal, S.N College Chempazhanthy) inaugurated the Digital Flora of Santhigiri Siddha Medical College, an innovative digitalisation system that knows the details of medicinal plants through scanning.
FLORA is all the plant life present in a particular region or time, generally the naturally occurring native plants. The whole plant kingdom is also represented by flora. Santhigiri Siddha Medical College is situated in Pothencode, close to Thiruvananthapuram, in a serene green environment. The college campus is clean and has fresh surroundings, with big green trees across the road through the herbal garden. By seeing this, you get a touch of green and a peaceful mind. The college has a well-planned and well-designed herbal garden with a wide collection of medicinal as well as wild plants. Huge trees, woody climbers and twiners, bamboo, shrubs, herbs with natural breezes, twitters of birds, etc. make the campus most beautiful. Campus floral diversity consists of 420 species, including 121 herbs, 2 epiphytes, 134 shrubs, climbers, and 163 trees. The digitization of campus flora is done through QR codes filmed on plant name boards. QR codes are barcodes that you scan with your phone to get access to more information on something. Each QR code gives access to a 'Plant Info' webpage with complete details for that plant. The Medicinal Botany of Department of Gunapadam Marunthiyal facilitates the floral conservation as well as digitization of this campus, makes the flora infirmative, and maintains its natural beauty and greenery |
